Password Strength Checker
See how strong your password really is: entropy in bits, common-pattern detection and an offline crack-time estimate. Everything stays on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really safe to type my real password here?
The checker runs entirely in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere, and you can verify that in the network tab. That said, best practice is to test a similar pattern rather than the exact password you use.
What is entropy and how many bits do I need?
Entropy measures unpredictability in bits. Under 40 bits falls to GPU cracking in hours; 60-80 bits resists casual attacks; 100+ bits is beyond any realistic offline attack. Length drives entropy faster than symbol variety.
Why does the checker flag dictionary words?
Cracking tools like hashcat try billions of dictionary words, leaked passwords and their mutations per second. Password1! falls instantly despite having digits, caps and symbols — mutations of common words are not strength.
